BOOM! went the room! BOOM! took the
town! BOOM! hit New York on Thanksgiving
Eve - and from now on, as someone said,
"It's all about BOOM!"
Maybe it started with DJ Billy Lace who
made it clear that this wasn't just
another hometown holiday night at your
local gay bar. Or maybe it was DJ
Theresa who threw down a ferociously
jubilant set that kept an entire tribe
of sexy Native Americans whooping and
hollering. No matter how it started, by
the time Hector Fonseca took over the
boards, the word had gone out, thanks to
scores of texts and dozens of phone
calls, all messaging a variant of "BOOM!
Get yo ass here. This party is DA BOOM."
Manhattan's new favorite nightclub,
District 36, was loaded with a corps of
go-go gods and banjee babes, as well as
a tribe of gay Native Americans
(possibly the Sioux Gays or the Cherokee
Chers), and even a fire-eater who
swallowed fire with the ease that most
boys open their mouths for something
equally hot. Beefcake was everywhere, as
was cheesecake and hotdogs and fresh
cherry youth, making for a veritable
feast on the night before Thanksgiving.
KA-BOOM!
All through the night, the energy
accelerated as the corps of BOOM! boyz
accessorized and worked their
moneymakers. Fonseca served it up
righteous, offering the crowd exactly
the mix of booty-bumping, chart-topping,
pelvic-grinding beats that kept them
shaking and baking. Confetti bombs burst
over the crowd as Fonseca threw down the
summer classic, "Happiness" with its
insistent lyric, "I gotta hurry hurry
hurry / Now quick quick quick / Just
step on the gas cause I don’t wanna miss
this." No, you most certainly did not
want to miss this smorgasbord.
Some time after three am, Jessica Sutta,
formerly of the Pussycat Dolls ("Don't
Cha" and "Buttons") showed up to perform
her current number one Billboard dance
hit, "Show Me." The infectious track had
the boys jumping for joy, their arms
pumping the air as they sang along with
all the carefree abandon that marks the
best holidays. SH-BOOM!
A benefit for It Gets Better Project,
producers Jake Resnicow and Patrick
Crough gave New York a party to be
thankful for on Thanksgiving Eve - and
at night's end, more than five thousand
dollars had been raised to empower LGBT
youth. That's a BOOM! and another BOOM!
It's a joy to witness a party hitting
its stride. And it's a joy to witness a
deejay in peak form, evolving into what
his crowd wants from him. And when it's
served at a club that's as fabulous as
it is fun, that's a recipe for success.
For a holiday that's all about gorging
and gluttony, BOOM! was a party that
took the cake - and let the boys eat it
up. |
