For some of us, the adult equivalent of the childhood fantasy of being locked overnight in a candy store would be to find ourselves on a film shoot in a remote locale with a dozen of the porn stars who inhabit our dreams. This is the fantasy which Mr. Pam (aka Pam Dore, a documentarian of omnivorous sexual appetites and a contagious laugh) makes a reality in documenting the three-week shoot in Sacramento, California of the male porn flick, Buckleroos. Blessed by two highly-charismatic (and extremely well-endowed) leads, Dean Phoenix and Marcus Irons, Buckleroos swept the adult video awards the year of its release, 2004. In getting behind the scenes of this extremely successful porn film, Dore exposes the strong sense of community forged amongst the film’s stars and crew on the ranch which serves as the film’s set. What with the endearing traits of each cast member revealed by Dore’s probing and solicitous questions, it’s not long before the Buckleroos family becomes the Waltons of porn – and it’s perfectly understandable why, at the wrap party, Marcus Irons cannot help the tears which slide down his face. It’s odd to imagine that your heart might be so stolen by porn, but Dore’s film makes it clear that sometimes when you bare your body, you might also, with luck, bare your soul.
